Keeping the Great Highway Open. Connie is the only candidate for District 1 who has never wavered on her commitment to keeping the Great Highway open. For years, Connie has supported proposals to both provide recreation space and maintain road access — a position she maintains to this day. She knows closing the Great Highway would lengthen commute times, make our streets more dangerous and steal precious time with our families.
Keeping the Richmond Safe. Connie secured $75 million to recruit, hire and retain more police officers to keep our neighborhoods safe. As Budget Chair, she fought to get the Richmond our fair share of public safety resources by bringing the SFPD Richmond Station closer to full staffing. She delivered on her promise to deploy retired Police Ambassadors to patrol our business corridors. And she expanded Street Crisis Response teams for mental health crises.
Building Truly Affordable Housing. Connie is our neighborhoods’ housing champion. She’s fought back against big developers eyeing our neighborhoods for displacement (and trying to bulldoze our neighborhood shopping streets) and secured funding for 174 new units — the majority of them 100% affordable. She passed legislation giving rent relief to tenants and small property owners. And she’s fought for fair and affordable rents.
Addressing the Homelessness Crisis. Connie is working every day to bring everyone indoors and keep them there. Connie has fought hard for consistent homeless outreach and funding for housing vouchers, emergency rental assistance and other services to help people get and stay housed. She prevented the mayor’s attempts to cut vital services for homeless families. And she improved tenant rights and our district’s affordable housing supply to prevent vulnerable neighbors from losing their housing.
Supporting Local Businesses. Connie restored funding for our neighborhood small businesses and community services for vandalism grants, fire victim support, support for displaced workers and lease negotiations to help small businesses stay in the neighborhood. And she successfully halted tax increases and provided incentives to support businesses recovering from the pandemic.
Fighting for Families. Connie successfully protected against City Hall’s efforts to eliminate free summer camp for K-8 public school students. She stopped cuts to vital food access programs for children and seniors and secured millions of dollars for summer camps, after school care and food programs. And she has helped to maintain the safety and vibrancy of our family-friendly neighborhoods.
That’s why she’s supported by local healthcare workers, educators, working families, labor unions, firefighters, a broad coalition of progressive and moderate elected and community leaders, and thousands of District 1 neighbors. We’re standing with Chan!
